NFTE Youth Board meeting, in partnership with Horse's Mouth - Monday 27th February

Well I hope you’re all geared up for Mondays YB meeting at the Horse’s Mouth?!?!?!

Invitations have been sent and the agenda has been finalised. All that’s left to do now is get the party started.

Monday’s meeting will be a little different from the launch in November. It will be an opportunity for the YB members to talk about their role at the NFTE TF on March 17th. It will also be an opportunity to discuss how the YB members can manage the Blog.

Monday will be dedicated to the Horse’s Mouth project. In case you don’t know the Horse’s mouth is, here a little taste

Horse’s mouth is an exciting new charity website launching this year. Horse’s Mouth is a website where you can share and pass on the things you're going through, and the things you've been through, with REAL people. We all have amazing value in our life experiences. If only we could pass them on to the people who need them most... By registering on Horse's Mouth, you can offer to share what you've learnt from life so far, on any subject. From education, to health, careers or families, they want to know what you've been through - and what you've learned.

All the pictures and gossip will be on the blog by the end of the day…if I’m not too tied from all the excitement!

Connexions - Unleash Your Potential

Two weeks ago I went to the Connexions career’s fair in Woolwich. I had a brilliant time. I met lots of students, teachers and careers advisors.

The Connexions team invited Coree Richards, ex Damage member, who performed his new single and gave an inspirational talk.

In the evening there was a talent show. I was asked to be a judge. It was a difficult task but I think the right person won(pictures below)

I was overwhelmed by the talent, commitment and dedication shown by the performers.

Congratulations to Alice Ogebule, Marlena Topple,Lorraine Emmanuel, Zena Webber, Gemma Baidoo and Hamish Gallish for organising such a brilliant energetic event.

Connexions staff will be trained to deliver the NFTE programme at the Connexions centre in Woolwich.

I just wanted to say thank you very much for allowing me to be associated with this programme. I think its great and am delighted to be part of such a fantastic organisation. I learnt so much and have been inspired by many of the speakers today. I truly think NFTE is a valuble method of communicating and being able to discuss and evalute ideas. I enjoyed talking to different people and listening to what they had to say. Overall i have had the opportunity to gain first hand information from 'REAL' entrepreneures. NFTE teamed up with the top entrepreneurs around to launch the NFTE Youth Board and Blog on Monday 14th November 2006. Held on the 33rd floor of the breathtaking Citigroup building in Canary Wharf, students from Walthamstow School for Girls, Swanlea School, Kingsford Community School, Norbury Manor, Villiers School and their teachers gathered together to celebrate the first NFTE YB.

The event was launched with a passionate and warm introduction from Douglas Grip, NFTE trustee from Goldman Sachs who sponsored and supported the event. Doug gave the students a brief insight into his entrepreneurial family background: Did anyone know that Doug’s grandfather was the founders of Papermate Pens…?Doug spoke briefly about the role of the YB and the importance of NFTE student input to ensure that NFTE remains a student led organisation which meets the needs of young entrepreneurs.

If Douglas was a tough act to follow, the Naked Apes rose to the occasion. Naked Apes(Joe Howard and Simon Strong) work with a variety of organisations to apply an understanding of human nature to business problems. They played a variety of games which encouraged the students to think outside the box and state the obvious “what may be obvious to you may not be obvious to the next person”. By the end of the session everyone was enthused, laughing and ready for the day ahead.

After a short break 11th Commandment (a young dance group from Walthamstow) performed to a medley of Hip hop tunes. We’ve all had a moment when we think things are about to change and that’s exactly what 11th Commandment did to the atmosphere in the room. Their co-ordinated dance formations coupled with strategic street dance blew everyone away and they finished to a huge round of applause!

Armed with a stop watch and whistle, Oli Barrett, founder of Rainmakers did his famous Speed network session which raised the room temperature and got the students rushing around meeting people they had never met before. Oli warned the students - the main rule of speed networking is “No double dating” therefore, there was forfeit for anyone who didn’t find a new person to meet once the whistle was blown.

Last but not least Ewan MacLeod, founder of Neo One spoke about his experience of running a school tuck shop and how he managed feature in the top 100 highest earners Britain, despite not earning that much…yet! Ewan kindly offered to buy all the YB members a .co.uk or .com domain and host if for a year as part of his contribution to the YB goody bag – thanks Ewan!!!

Finally, the all important lunch, coupled with an opportunity to network with the entrepreneurs, exchange cards and pick up the YB goody bag crammed with goodies from Apex, Connexions, Merrill Lynch, Oli Barrett and NFTE.

The youth Board is not only about bringing students together from across London to enjoy a free lunch and entertainment it’s also about creating a relaxed forum for young entrepreneurs to meet established entrepreneurs, giving the students a voice, a unique opportunity to network with their peers in a relaxed environment, discuss cutting edge enterprise issues, make a real impact into how NFTE is taught and events are run.

Thanks to all of the entrepreneurs that attended, supporters, teachers and most of all the students!

This morning was really great - not often you get students and teachers in total agreement. I really enjoyed it! You did a fantastic job - very professional but also passionate and approachable. Just well done - I'm knocked out.

You know one great thing about to-day was that the NFTE entrepreneurs really have a bit of zip about them. The Young Enterprise entrepreneurs are usually sole traders and they're just not as experienced or confident - although most of them are really lovely people. All those guys (wot no gals?) there to-day just had a really nice way in communicating with the young people. It came across very very well.

Today I did a marathon run to the opposite end of London. 1st stop Villiers then to Kingsford.

8:50 - Villiers School - Middlesex
12:30 - Kingsford – Beckton, then back to the office

The students at Villiers were amazing and really welcoming. I spoke to all of them about their business plans. I will be back at Villiers on Monday 12th November to hear their presentations.

Today I was at Kingsford Community College with the NFTE team. We ran an Enterprise day with 100 pupils!!!

I had so much fun meeting the students. They all gave fantastic presentations and came up with brilliant business ideas – well done to all that took part!

Hello,

It's 8:30 and I just got back from the Mind of and Entrepreneur event at Earls Court run by The AA Charity Trust. I attended the event with Anne-Maire and we both had a great time! It was a great opportunity to network and tell people about NFTE.

The speakers were very inspiring and we managed to spot Mr Yo! Sushi himself, Simon Woodroffe.

We listened to Timothy Campbell(winner of BBC2's The Apprentice 2005) talk about his experiences of being an entrepreneur and working for Mr Sugar. We found out what kept Alexander Amosu(Founder of RnB Ringtones and Mobscideo.com) motivated and many more....

Last but not least, congratulations to Anne- Marie who won a BlackBerry( a wireless phone, email, SMS, organizer) at the event!!! Well done!!

....the Trade Fair in April at The Great Hall, Kensington Town hall and sponsored by Merrill Lynch!

At the trade fair, NFTE students showcased their businesses, bringing along products and services to sell. The aim of the day was to allow students an opportunity to trade in a competitive environment, outside their school niche and most importantly have fun doing it!

The students networked with other young entrepreneurs with similar business ideas from other schools, conducted market research, practiced sales techniques and received feedback about their business ideas from a wide and varied cross section of the public.

All of the students had a great time and the experience opened up avenues of opportunity to students from across the UK

Oh, did I forget to mention there was also a fashion show and performances from Bigga Fish!

Winners of the Merrill Lynch BPC 2005

After a gruelling but excellent day of presentations from the 6 finalist, I am happy to announce the winners of the ML BPC 2005!

The Judges took 20 painful minutes to decide who the winners were. When the deliberation was over Oli Barratt (spokes person for the judges) congratulated all of the teams and gave specific feedback before announcing the winners.

The judges confessed they had not expected the quality and dedication they had seen from each group. Ewan said he had been “blown away”!

I am pleased to announce we will be launching the NFTE YB and Blog on Monday 14th November from 9:30-13:00 at Goldman Sachs.

The NFTE YB will be the young voices of enterprise, comprising of a diverse selection of NFTE students from various borough's in London. The board will meet once a term to discuss cutting edge enterprise issues, share good practice and debate areas of development in enterprise.

The YB will also manage and maintain the NFTE UK Blog and keep you all posted on the latest events and news

So stay tuned and please feel free to comment on any issues raised by the YB on this Blog...watch this space!
